2 Ways to Wear a Tartan/Check/Plaid Winter Coat

2 Ways to Wear a Tartan/Check/Plaid Winter Coat

Nothing beats a classic pattern, especially during the wintertime when tradition is front-of-mind. You can call it check, plaid or tartan, but these quintessential winter markings are what helps to make these cooler months feel warm and magical. Whether you prefer a more traditional version or one that has been reimagined, you can find a wide variety of coats in these styles available right now.

I recently pulled two of these distinct styles from my go-to contemporary fashion brand, Pinko. Since sometimes it’s all about feeling cozy in a classic, I chose this red tartan coat for a casual weekend of running errands in New York City.

For me, this always requires relaxed-fit, boyfriend jeans, and a soft sweater. This sweater is also by Pinko. You’ll be seeing the logomania trend a lot throughout 2018.

I like to style my boyfriend jeans with a heel to create a mix of feminine and masculine feels, so these socks boots were a must. Also, a winter favorite is this pair of Gucci wool socks.

For those days that call for a pinch of millennial pink to perk you up out of your winter blues, this longline, plaid coat is perfect. I wore it during a day of shopping, while in London last month.

I kept the outfit muted with a pair of grey high-rise, skinny jeans by Hudson, a tucked-in white sweater and Dior kitten heels so that the coat could be the star.

The femme feels given by the pop of pink is a fresh take on the classic pattern. Yet, because of the boxy cut, the coat is balanced with masculinity… there’s that mix again.

Below, you can see more of how I styled each of these looks.
