4 of London’s Crave-Worthy Restaurants

4 of London’s Crave-Worthy Restaurants

With fashion month finally wrapped up, it appears my style stalking can return to a more ‘normal’ speed and I can finally focus on my other passions, like food and travel. Speaking of both, I realize that I have not shared my epicurean experiences from across the pond last December. That said, here are some of my beloved places to dine while in London, England.

Tamarind of Mayfair

In general, Indian food in London is pretty incredible. However, at Tamarind of Mayfair it is phenomenal! This culinary gem, which is hidden underground, is the first Indian restaurant in the world to have been recognized with a Michelin Star and it remains as one of only nine to hold the accolade. The entry of this eatery can feel a bit cold due to its dark, sleek design; but once you are seated inside the bright dinging room and begin your food journey, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into someone’s home (the Queen’s palace to be precise — the service is that exceptional!). When dining at this extraordinary establishment, be ready to make it the evening experience, since you wouldn’t want to rush thru such an excellent spread. 20 Queen St., London W1J 5PR; +44 20 7629 3561; www.tamarindrestaurant.com

Berners Tavern at The London EDITION Hotel (SoHo)

Berners Tavern London Edition - Obsessions Now

As a huge fan of the Ian Schrager designed EDITION hotels by Marriott, observing the carefully selected details inside this ‘new kind of gathering place’ is a must. The buzz of a new artfully designed hotel along with the well-known talent of Michelin-starred Executive Chef Jason Atherton could seem to be just hype; however, I can attest that it is not — the meal I had at Bearners Tavern was insanely delicious. Here is what I had the opportunity to taste: Crispy Moroccan lamb, prawn cocktail, Berners Tavern chopped vegetable salad, Berners Tavern mac and cheese, triple cooked chips, and the Buccleuch Estate cote de boeuf. Note: If I could request my last meal on earth, this could possibly be it. 10 Berners St, London W1T 3LF; +44 20 7908 7979; www.bernerstavern.com

Coya London (Mayfair)

Cora London - Obsessions Now

Even if you’re not a part of Coya’s private members club, exploring the profound flavors of Peru in the culturally-designed dining room downstairs is an entertaining experience. If you’ve been to the Miami or Dubai location, then you already know that the meal will contain many small courses and is meant to be shared with friends. At Coya it is best to order from several categories of the menu, try a new a ceviche dish, and to unquestionably start with one of their many flavors of Pisco Sour. 118 Piccadilly, Mayfair, London W1J7NW; +44 20 7042 7118; www.coyarestaurant.com

Zuma (Knightsbridge)

To me, visiting multiple locations of favored restaurants can provide a greater understanding of the executive chef’s capabilities. So, since I enjoy the Zuma in Miami and NYC, dropping by the London location was a necessity for me. I appreciate the consistent level of sophistication when dining at this institution, and that is exactly what you will get at the London location. The contemporary Japanese menu offers many crave-worthy dishes that excite both the sashimi lover and carnivore alike. As both, I like to start off with a few seafood cold dishes before inevitably splurging on the wagyu (plus a bottle of cold saki). It’s also an excellent choice for a post-shopping lunch, as Harrod’s (see a pic of the magical shopping land here) and Harvey Nichols are nearby. 5 Raphel St, London SW7 1DL; +44 20 7584 1010; www.zumarestaurant.com
