Currently Coveting: Pinko, an Italian Discovery In SoHo

One of my latest fashion finds happened while walking down a street that I’ve paced a million times before. This discovery, and the tale about how my love affair with the Italian brand, Pinko, began, is one that may challenge you to open your eyes to your everyday surroundings.

As I am no stranger to the shops in SoHo, New York City’s stylish downtown shopping district, my path to and from my go-to retailers is one that I could navigate with my eyes closed. That is, until one day I became very aware of this redundancy and the boredom I felt with my usual brick and mortar shopping destinations.

That said, I decided to stroll these well-known urban streets in a more aware state. I’d go sans-headphones and the sounds of Spotify serenading my ears, and be on alert for new places to pop into. Only a few blocks into my open sensory journey down West Broadway Street, I spotted a small shop that had the windows covered in paper wrapping and a sign that said, “Coming soon. Pinko.” With one Google search, I discovered the contemporary brand with distinct Italian-style highlights an unexpected femininity. Feeling intrigued, I quickly jotted down in my notes app: Must check out Pinko,  sophisticated-cool European brand with a new store at 414-416 West Broadway Street.

Later, on a mission to find new wears for a winter escape down to Miami, I was getting frustrated with the selection at all my usual stores. But then, as if the fashion gods had sent down a reminder, I found my note about the coming soon sign. As I staggered across the snow-covered SoHo streets to see if this new store was finally open, I excitedly spied a window full of exotic prints and vivid colors. I thought, “jackpot” and jogged straight over to the inviting bright, warm shop.

Inside, I found the friendliest staff, a massive amount of color, stands full of show-stopping florals, tons of stripes, and the ultimate mother-load of street style-worthy pieces. From the cool urban vibes found in the Pinko fall 2016 collection to the 2017 spring/summer tropical prints, I couldn’t stop myself from falling instantly in love with their unique garments. I had finally found clothing styles not seen a million times before!

Below, you can view more of this look, which was pulled from their SS17 collection. This print pairing was absolutely perfect for my trip down to Miami during the art-filled (party) weekend known as Art Basel. With my eyes and fashion-loving heart now full of the incredible individuality that Pinko offers, I’ve since been back to their store to hunt for more covetable pieces.

If you’re curious about this modern Italian brand, who’s approach to fashion is dynamic and attentive to the here and now, check out their site (www.pinko.com) or stop by their new downtown location in New York City. By the way – Pinko is also opening a store in the Brickell City Centre in Miami (other worldwide locations can be found, here).
