Well, I’ve officially fallen for fall. These recent bright blue skies and orange autumn leaves have me feeling the need to celebrate this beautiful weather. Inspired by the most brilliant color combination that I saw come out of the street style round-ups from Milan and Paris fashion week, this seasonal look embodies the boldest colors found in our crisp fall days. From the fashion capitals of the world to the small towns of our heartland, this splendid mixture is sure to be the most notable of this season.
To keep with a trend-led theme, try this copper-colored oversized coat with a rich blend of wool, alpaca, and mohair that I found by Elizabeth and James. It’s seasonally appropriate brightness is a great way to shield yourself from the cooler temperatures (literally, you will feel like you’re wrapped in a warm hug). The extra large size makes it perfect for pairing with skinny-fit, blue jeans, however, there’s always a way to step things up.
Recently, I spoke about the return of velvet, but what I forgot to mention is the variety of colors that it’s available in this year. That said, why not turn up your texture game to toasty levels with velvet pants in blue? These Bailey 44 cropped velvet pants with track stripes down the side were my first choice because they’re the best length for showing off my metallic booties (this Saint Laurent pair is from last year – here’s a similar pair available now that’s priced under $100).
A solid neutral top – like this sheer knit sweater in white by Free People – will keep the look from becoming too in your face with bold colors. I found that an orange top and blue pants is just too loud when worn together. That’s why it’s a good idea to use your top layer as a way to accomplish this autumn color combination.
