With blizzardy winds swirling around during day one of New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2017, I knew that getting around was going to be a bit tricky. Even without the worrisome weather conditions, the first official day of NYFW is always a little overwhelming since you’re getting your first feels for show schedules, schlepps between venues and the overall dizzying momentum that lasts for seven full days. That said, I’ve found that on the first day of fashion week, it’s best to dress in an outfit that isn’t going to slow you down or stress you out. Hence, this simple long-sleeve shirt dress with d-ring belt (here).
Due to these bone-chilling weather conditions, I chose to forego the fluffy fur factor that was already catching every street style photographer’s eye outside of the shows. Now, being snapped by these style-savvy folks means everything to a fashion blogger; still, I didn’t wear this colorful faux fur to my first show (see show recap here). Instead, I doubled down with a longline, short hair fur coat in a midnight-blue leopard print (here) that was topped with my old-faithful down parka. However, as soon as the whipping winds of Snowmageddon had come to an end (see video NYFW 17 Blizzard ), I happily swapped out the heavy outerwear for this fun furbaby (here) and strutted my stuff outside of the shows for the men and woman behind the cameras to appreciate (alongside ALL of the other faux fur-wearing fashionistas).
Since slipping and falling is never a good look to have captured, I kept these lace-up leather boots (here) by French Connection on throughout the day. The tough but feminine pairing of these combat-inspired boots with the belted shirt dress and patchwork fur produced the right amount of attention while still being functional.
