How to Slay an After-Dark Dress During Winter

How to Slay an After-Dark Dress During Winter

Has winter given you the blues? During these months with chilly days and frosty evenings, the mere thought of wearing a dress with a low-plunging neckline or a high side-slit can easily bring about an epic shiver. However, with appropriate layering and a pop of luxe texture, a sultry after-dark look can still be in the cards for you.

All you need is a dress in plush velvet — winter’s most soft and sumptuous texture — and a basic turtleneck to layer underneath. I recently chose to wear this twist-front maxi by J.O.A. while in London celebrating the holidays and opted to use a black turtleneck with pearl cuff detailing as my base.

I’d also recommend tossing on a pair of over-the-knee boots. These pointed-toe boots come in a fabric that has a bit of a shine so they give that extra dose of luxe feels (they are also on sale!). A pair of sheer stockings could also aid in providing warmth, still, a small pop of skin goes a long way if you can bare it.

Below, you can see more of this after-dark look, as well as additional velvet dresses and styling options at the very bottom of the page.

SLAY is the perfect word for you and this outfit. I absolutely love the layering with dark blue velvet. I never would’ve thought of that. Bookmarking this post.
The button details on the long sleeve top are one of my favorite details.
