The future has arrived. Last February, when the 2017 fall/winter collections were first debuted during fashion week, it was clear that designers were decidedly about futurism. Head-to-toe metallic silver looks trotted down the runway like a single file line of space-bound cadets boarding a rocket. These futuristic ensembles were seen at Chanel, Balenciaga, Isabel Marant, Miu Miu and more. Now that we have entered the cooler seasons, I too am all about silver. However, I don’t see being completely wrapped in tinfoil-looking fabrics to be the most practical for everyday style… unless you’re an astronaut.
That said, I thought I’d share a more wearable way to embrace the futuristic metallic trend this season. To begin, find a pair of cropped denim jeans that are a good fit and will show off a set of silver booties (my ‘moon boots’ are by Saint Laurent from last year so I’ve included a selection of currently available boots at the very bottom of the page). I’ve chosen denim by Articles of Society because they have a stretchy fit and are typically priced below $100. Next, add a neutral-colored knit. I’ve been living in this black turtleneck with cutouts lately. Sweaters with unexpected cutouts are a great way to add edge to any basic look. Then, make the look lift-off-ready with a high-shine, silver bomber or puffer jacket. Lastly, add accessories that will complete your mission to defy gravity like these exaggerated cat eye sunglasses and leather star gloves.
