Want to Step Up Your Brow Game with Eyebrow Extensions?

Want to Step Up Your Brow Game with Eyebrow Extensions?

It’s all about having great brow game these days – the bigger and bushier, the better! And, since I’m totally obsessed with eyebrows, I couldn’t be any more thrilled that this trend is going strong. If you’re like me, you are always on the hunt for the latest and greatest eyebrow product or service and have probably been wondering about eyebrow extensions. That said, you know I had to try it!

After some research, the decision was made to go with the London-based company, Blink Brow Bar (located at Saks Fifth Avenue). While there are a handful of obscure companies currently offering this service in NYC, I felt that since this brand had such a widespread presence across the pond, they might produce the best results. Below, you can see, how the life-changing experience went down…

Welcome To The Blink Brow Bar At Saks Fifth Avenue

BlinkBrowBar

On the fifth floor of Saks, past the Alice + Olivia section and to the right, is Blink Brow Bar. Here you are greeted by their friendly staff and made comfortable in one of their two treatment stations. Before you get started, the technician provides a little background on the process and answers any of your questions. During our session, this is what I found out:

  • The hair is silk and is applied to thinner, less visible hairs. Note: Recently Blink Bar came out with a new glue, which is skin-safe and allows an extension to be made without the presence of existing hairs. However, this glue is not as strong as those used for hair extensions.
  • To avoid an intense or jarring look, a blend of two shades should be used – one darker and one lighter than your natural eyebrow color.
  • The tiny silk hairs are applied one-by-one using tweezers, so the process takes between 1-2.5 hours, depending on if you need a full or half set to fill out your brows.
  • You must be careful not to touch, wipe or clean the eyebrow area after the hair is applied or else the extension will rub off. It was noted to be extra careful at the gym, in the morning and during showers.
  • The look should last between 2-4 weeks, depending on how good you are at not touching your brows.

Before: No Brow Filler, Sparse Patches Showing

After Build-A-Brow (Half Set): Thicker, Bold Brows

Brow_After

Location: Blink Brow Bar @ Saks Fifth Avenue, NYC

Service: Build-A-Brow (half set)

Time: 1.5 hours

Price: I paid $158.06 for a half set brow build and a brow pen to take home (price includes taxes)

Pros:

  • Brows are thicker, sparse hair areas are filled in.
  • Compared to pencils and powders, the look is more “real.”
  • Having the extensions already on your face every morning cuts down getting ready time by a few minutes and also gives good morning brow.

Cons:

  • You have to be super careful to not touch, clean or wipe your brows or else the hair will easily come off. This takes a few days to get used to, so during your first time you may wipe a good amount off on accident.
  • After a few days the glue becomes noticeable in some spots and looks like eyebrow dandruff. Eww.
  • In our case, the look only lasted two weeks (results do vary).
  • The initial price is high (although subsequent infills are half the price).

Conclusion: Seeing the sparse areas of your eyebrows filled in with hair is amazing! The tiny silk hairs look natural and much better than when filled in with pencil or powder (especially during the day). Being able to wake up with beautiful eyebrows that give strong brow game all day will totally add extra pep in your step. Still, the results come with over a $150.00 price tag and a 24/7 battle to not touch your eyebrows (it doesn’t sound that hard until you actually try to do it). So, if you have a wallet that can take the initial cost and infills every 2-3 weeks, go for it. It looks amazing and the not touching thing probably gets easier with time. But, if adding another monthly beauty expense isn’t in the cards for you right now, then wait for a special occasion.
