Where to Find Fashion-Forward Athleisure

Where to Find Fashion-Forward Athleisure

Sorry (okay, not that sorry) Lululemon, but the days of wearing yoga pants as a sporty ‘off-duty’ look have passed. Athleisure has evolved into much more than a casually-cool trend and has already proved that it has some serious staying power. Still, while every major brand has seemingly become woke and are actually listening to their consumer’s lifestyle needs, the fast-growing athleisure market is quickly becoming saturated.

That said, when I see that a brand has launched an athleisure collection that goes beyond the typical tiny twist on the tried and true formula of lifestyle-focused activewear, I’m immediately intrigued. This was the case when I was introduced to the spring/summer 2017 athleisure line by Pinko (you may remember when I first discovered their new store in SoHo – read here).

This style of design is new to the Italian fashion house, which may be why it was met with such a fresh perspective. Their pieces blend fashion and performance, while still preserving their modern-day feminine style. For example, this viscose pencil skirt (here) gives both those ladylike and sporty feels. It could be paired with a casual tee and sneakers or elevated with the pairing of the matching bra top (here) worn over one of their button-downs.

Since I’m into testing out new trends, I went with the ‘bra out’ or ‘bra over top’ look. I love that it pushes the envelope a little but can still be socially acceptable when worn inside a luxury resort lobby. Below, you can see more of these athleisure pieces by Pinko, which were the winning combo during my recent weekend retreat at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. There’s nothing like an incredible spa, dry desert air and some fresh threads to kick-start a new spring wellness routine.

If you’re curious about additional fashion-forward athleisure styles by Pinko, you can view their full collection here.
